Conclusion

COX-2 inhibitors are able to kill human breast cancer cells in a dose dependent manner by inducing apoptosis. The growth of normal cells is not affected by COX-2 inhibition. The inhibition of COX-2 results in the downregulation of bcl-2 expression, hence this protein's anti-apoptotic effects are lowered, allowing cells to undergo programmed cell death, or apoptosis.
