Growth and Stimulation of Stem Cells
Adult mouse stem cells were isolated from the subventricular region of the brain. They were then cultured into flasks until they were mature enough to be placed into liquid nitrogen until they were needed. The adult mouse stem cells were taken out of the liquid nitrogen and allowed to cool for five minutes under the fume hood. They were then placed in the centrifuge and spun for ten minutes. Then, these cells were put into the medium DMEM. One half of a millilitre of cells was cultured into 0.5ml of medium.
Composition of Medium “Dulbecco’s Modified Eagle Medium”
We grew our stem cells in the solution DMEM. DMEM is a pink liquid made up of Fungizone, Gentamicin, normal horse serum, Glutamine, and fetal cow serum. One half of a millilitre of this medium was the habitat for one half of a millilitre of stem cells.
