1.     Survey students from grades six through to twelve with following survey.

Does Involuntary Smoke Affect Your Lung Capacity?

 ·         Age  _____

·         Grade _____

·         Sex (M/F) _____

·         Have there been one or more family members smoking in your home in the past 3 years? _____

·         If so, have you been exposed to second hand smoke in your home for over 3 years? _____

·         Do you consider yourself a smoker? _____

·         Do you have asthma or any other respiratory disease? _____

·         Do you have any chest congestion or cold symptoms? _____

 ·         Lung Capacity _____ (Do not fill in)

 *Your name is not required although if I choose to test your lung capacity it will be needed.  Your name will not appear anywhere on the science fair project.  It is only for my reference.

2.     From those surveys select four students that do not have      asthma or any other respiratory disease and/or cold symptoms.  Two of which have to be exposed to second hand smoke regularly in their homes for over three years, and two that have not.

3.     Test those students’ lung capacities.  Make them take the deepest breath they can and then blow out into the hose for as long as they can.

4.     Record the results and compare.
