What is DNA?
DNA is
like a genetic fingerprint; its your own personal code that you can be
identified with. It's your genes - what makes your hair red, or brown,
and your eyes green or blue. DNA stands for deoxyribonucleic acid.

The uses of DNA:
DNA is used for lots of things. Here are some examples:
1. In identification, for catching criminals.
2. In genetic engineering, for making things out of genes.
3. In archeology, for finding how old mummies are, or who's related to them
4.
In medicine, for finding diseases in babies before they are born.
DNA
in identification:
DNA is
used a lot in identification. Why? Because it's never wrong! If the criminal
leaves behind a single hair, or a piece of skin, scientists, with the right
instruments, can determine who it belongs to.
The pros & the cons of DNA:
PROS: CONS:
| Curing people with illnesses - medecine | When you do DNA testing, its expensive & is not always correct. |
| Helps solve crimes (DNA is always right!) - idenitfication | Most DNA codes can be forged - ex: iris scans, fingerprint codes, voice codes. |
| Identifying mummies, collecting info about their deaths - archeology | Most genetically engineered crops, at this stage in time, usually do not tun out to well. |
| Making plants that produce better fruit or other kinds of produce. |
