Alexander was born near Darvel, Scotland.

He accidentally discovered penicillin in 1928.

In 1944, he was knighted, making him Sir Alexander Fleming.

He served as a professor of bacteriology at St. Mary’s Hospital Medical School from 1928 – 1948.

Alexander shared the Nobel prize with two other scientists for the discovery of Penicillin in 1945.
