Longshore drift

A longshore drifts occur when the current carries waves to the shoreline at an angle, not straight on. The movement of waves (pushing out, sucking in) creates a zigzag motion along the shoreline, that can carry sediment, eroded by the sea. If you've ever swam in an ocean, you might notice that you too, were carried by a longshore drift while you were swimming.
