Purpose

To find whether synergy exists between IP6 and PG490 drug concentration combinations in specific cancer cell lines.

Inositol Hexaphosphate
IP6 is found in grain and inhibits cancer cell proliferation.
Triptolide
PG490 is found in a Chinese mushroom and induces cell death.

Synergy
Multiple drugs working together to produce a more effective result.

Application

With the results collected from this experiment, it was concluded that the two drugs, IP6 and 983M cells work synergistically only at low concentrations with 983M cells. This is most likely because the 983M cells are slightly different from the other cell lines. IP6 and PG490 could be used to treat many cases of melanoma, an aggressive skin cancer, and because of this synergistic effect between the drugs, this significantly reduces the doses that need to be taken, therefore reducing the side effects and staying away from the lethal dose.

Looking Forward

The flash slide show at the top symbolizes the primary goal behind our project. We, like many others in the scientific community, believe in bettering humanity. As a result, we are constanty looking forward: striving for progress. Just as the flash shows men striving towards their goals, we strive to take a step in curing cancer.
