Test six

For the second test, we found a claim that coca cola uses it's own product to clean it's machinery! 0_0;  So, we tested it best we could.

We found several rusted bits of metal  and placed them in an empty jam jar. Then, we filled the jar about halfway with classic coke. We left the jam jar in a room temperature room (it was a room, and therefore was room temperature, right?) and waited for 24 hours.

When we returned 24 hours later and removed the pieces of metal 'n dried them, most of the rust was gone! 0o0 We also observed that pieces of rust were left floating on the surface of the coke in the jar.

WHY

First off the citric acid helped loosen the rust's hold on the metal, letting the carbonation get underneath the rust and pry it away. The carbonation then pushed the tiny pieces of rust to the surface where they floated.

Conclusion: well, we don't actually have proof that coca cola necessarily USES it's own product to clean rust, but technically speaking, it COULD. Maybe we should inform them of this.... hmmm... maybe we could... make some money... hun.. maybe.. yah.. you know reading small text is bad for your eyes.

On to the next experiment!
