Abstract:

     This report discusses different Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies such as Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy, and Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease. These are diseases that infect mammals -- their cause is the prion protein. For the animal to become infected it must consume the prion from an infected animal.

Source of Idea:

     I got the inspiration for this project while I was reading the newspaper. I read an articule that talked about Prions and BSE and CJD. I started background information research right away. I went to my teacher about it and he had very little background in it so I showed him some of my data. He was very enthusiastic and encouraged me to start immediately on my in depth research.
