APPLICATIONS

This information can be used in many different ways.  Botanists, amateurs and professionals alike, would understand which type of lighting should be used to grow plants.  According to this experiment, sunlight produces the healthiest plants, but the light quantity and duration of sunlight could sometimes be a problem.  This is especially the case in winter.  The intensity of sunlight is sometimes very low compared to that of several types of artificial lighting.  So, using one or more artificial lights would increase the quantity and duration of sunlight.  This would lead to an increase of a plant’s growth rate.  Fluorescent tubes could be used in this situation.

According to this experiment, fluorescent lighting is the best artificial light out of the chosen types.  The plant that was grown under fluorescent lighting progressed into fairly healthy plant.  Fluorescent lights are efficient as well, so it would be affordable for large-scale use.  According to the experiment, fluorescent lighting could be used to speed up the growth of a plant that has been growing for a couple of days.

On the other hand, incandescent bulbs can be used to speed up the growth of a seedling, since the increase in temperature encourages the seed to germinate faster.  Also, incandescent bulbs can be used while a plant is flowering, since plants require more light for the red/orange end of the spectrum and infrared light then usual.
