Building the Octagon Tower

Platform

Stuctural Supports

OCcorn_1

1) Cut one end of the straws so they have a 45 degree angle.

2) Glue the 8'' straws together in the form of an octagon. Make 7 octagons.

3) Glue an 8'' straw on top of each corner of one octagon.

4) Glue another octagon on top the standing straws.

5) Repeat until there is a seven story tower.

Platform for the Octagon Tower

Top

OCPlat1

1) Make an octagon half the size of the first octagon. Each side should be 4 inches.

2) Cut lengths of straws to fit inside the octagon. Fill all of the space with straws parallel to each other.

3) On one side, glue four straws perpendicular to the straws filling the space. Place the straws evenly apart.

OCplat5

4) Place the platform on top of the tower. Glue one end of a 8 inch straw to each corner of the platform and the other end to the matching corner of the tower.

5) Support the platform with 10 inch straws cut to fit diagonally into the rectangle spaces between the tower and the platform. Alternate pointing the diagonal up and down. There should be four Vs.

2) Glue each straw from the corner to the center of the base. It will look like a star.

3) Make the backbone for the tower.

4) Glue the backbone at the center of the star at the base of the tower.

5) Glue the top of the backbone underneath the center of the platform at the top of the tower.

6) Support the backbone at the fourth floor. Link sections of straws to make 11.25 inch lengths. Glue the straws to each corner of the fourth floor. Angle the straws up approximately 35 degrees to meet the backbone. Note the straws should meet at the same point on the backbone.

7) Starting at the bottom of the tower, place one 8 inch straw in the middle of each side. Glue vertically between the first and second floor. Repeat on each floor and on each side of the tower.
