Introduction to Energy

Hello! My name is Elyse Nabata. I attend Simon Fraser Junior High School in Calgary, Alberta. I am currently in grade 8 and am 14 years old. I started showing an interest in the Virtual Science Fair competition when my brother Jordan entered last year and won prize money. Science has always been one of my favorite subjects, so I thought it would be a good experience to enter the contest. My science teacher introduced the contest to many students and encouraged us to enter.

I chose Fossil Fuels as my topic of interest, and will be discussing the different types of fossil fuels, how fossil fuels are made, alternate sources of energy, and the Kyoto Protocol.

I chose the subject of fossil fuels because I wanted to post a site about their effects on our Ozone layer (global warming). I want people to understand what is happening to our environment because of pollution. Through education, people learn that something must be done to protect our environment if we want our children to experience the beautiful world we live in. I also thought this would be a good opportunity to learn about the Kyoto Protocol and what impact it will have on Canadians.

Being born and raised in Alberta, I know that fossil fuels play an important role in our province’s economy. I have increased my knowledge of fossil fuels greatly by making this web page. It was a fun experience despite the hard work.

I hope you learn something from this web site! Enjoy the page!
