1) The Aspirin tablets were 80 mg and when we cut these there may have been some differences. A pharmacist said Children's Aspirin dissolved really well but even using a solution wouldn't have eliminated these measurement differences. 2) Measuring the plant height is not that simple. Beans have a top but don't always grow straight. Forget-me-nots and radishes have several tops so the longest one is chosen. When measuring care has to be taken to avoid breaking the stem and forget-me-nots and radishes break very easily. 3) When a bean plant broke is was mended with tape but when the plant was completely broken the average for a group of plants was adjusted to exclude that plant. When a seed rotted without growing the average was also adjusted. However, when a seed died because of the Aspirin it was still included in the plant averages. 4) Each plant was given the same amount of water and a medicine spoon was used to do this so surface tension tended to make this approximate. 5) Sometimes all the plants were given measured amounts of additional water during the week, if they were too dry. 6) The sprayer wasn't used too much in case it sprayed other plants by accident. For the second and subsequent trays the 9 seed plastic container was remove to water the seeds in a group. 7) Some plants might have done better under different growing conditions but they were kept the same. |
