7) Which of the following Genetically Modified crops have been approved for food use in Canada?

a) Cabbage
b) Barley
c) Potatoes
d) All of the above
e) None of the above

Something to think about:

Health Canada has approved the sale of NewLeafTM potatoes developed by the Monsanto Company. This variety has been genetically modified to be protected against the Colorado Potato Beetle. Health Canada reviewed the comparison of the new potato to other commercial potatoes finding no difference in composition or nutritional quality and concluded they were safe and nutritious to eat. The bags are voluntarily marked as 'improve through biotechnology'.

Scientists say that it should be realized that the present, improved cultivars of such important crops as wheat, corn, rice, potato and all fruit crops have been so adapted to conform to human cultural practices that they all now completely depend upon our care for their continued existence.

With the incorporation of an insecticide into the plant itself, scientists believe that means that people do not have to handle and use insecticides. The insecticide is protein-based, is biodegradable, and is not toxic to mammals, so the dangers associated with the use of many chemical insecticides are simply eliminated.

The release of GMOs raises concerns that genetic diversity will be threatened by the GMO cross-pollinating, or because the genetically modified organism takes over the habitat of native plants.
